Journal of Neurology & Neurosurgery- Lupine Publushers

Menstrual psychosis is a rare disorder that causes psychotic symptoms in conjunction with a patient’s menstrual cycle. We present a case of a 14-year-old girl who presents with such symptoms. Our patient presented with five days of somnolence, paranoia, and visual hallucinations soon after a diagnosis of streptococcal pharyngitis and being started on antimicrobial therapy. Her neurologic exam was significant for flat affect and psychomotor slowing. A thorough work-up consisting of brain MRI, EEG, LP, encephalopathy panel, along with metabolic, infectious, and inflammatory laboratory analysis was unremarkable, and she recovered without therapy about one week after symptom onset. Patient had recurrence and spontaneous resolution of her symptoms two more times over the next 10 months with repeat work-up negative; her family noted that the onset of her symptoms always seemed to coincide with the onset of her menses. She was started on combination oral contraceptive pills and has had no further recurrence of her symptoms since then.

Cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with sub cortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy (CADASIL) is a rare autosomal dominant genetic disease. A35 year old women presented with progressive loss of memory left sided weakness and hemiplegic and non insulin dependent diabetes mellitus with characteristic MRI findings is reported due to its rarity.Cerebral small vessel disease (SVD) is increasingly being recognized as the cause of stroke, impaired cognitive function and mood disorders in geriatric age group. Commonly SVD is sporadic due to old age and high blood pressure, but occasionally SVD has a monogenic cause. The best known among these is cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with sub cortical infarcts and leuko encephalopathy(CADASIL), a rare type of autosomal dominant cerebral angiopathy. It causes recurrent sub cortical ischemic events and vascular dementia which appear as diffuse white matter abnormality on neuro imaging. It involves mainly the small cerebral vessels; histopathology reveals non-atherosclerotic and non-amyloidal angiopathy. [1] The 1st case of a forementioned symptoms was reported 30 years ago in a Swedish family [2] and the term CADASIL was coined in early 1990's [3] Since then CADASIL has been diagnosed in number of families and ethnic groups all over the world.

Journal of Neurology & Neurosurgery- Lupine Publishers

The pace that Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) have evolved and revolutionized the society maroon’s human memory in a tumultuous sea of change, unpredictable and unstable. The future has been yanked out from its temporal location, dragging it into our perception of the present. Just days ago, they were saying, “The future has arrived.” Actually, since the time ICTs were put into motion, the future as we know it is already around us. It has been here for all we know, complicating the present and obscuring the liens of past and present [1]. Robert Hassan in his book Media, Politics, and the Network Society (2004) presents some compelling argument how ICTs are affecting the human memory. He cites equally insightful views which are also quoted in this article. Our memory is instrumental in humanizing the species that has emerged as the most dominant of the other sentient living things in the planet. Sui generis. Memory is the mirror of our being close to God’s likeness [2].
